Building my 1950s Lego Typewriter 21327

I’m not the first to admit, I love a good lego kit– or any lego for that matter! Although they must be interesting, fun & keep me occupied for hours!

1950s Lego Typewriter 21327, built by Chris Watterston

This kit is from the Ideas catalog, Lego Typewriter 21327. Something I'd had my eye on for a few months, but kept stopping myself from forking out. Telling myself I didn’t really need it 😏

But I did need it. My excuse for finally breaking, that I didn’t buy myself a Lego kit during the COVID lockdowns– true story!

My day job is evolved around digital, so this kit naturally appealed to me. A touch of heritage and background from what I do day-to-day. As the copywriter at Lego put it so nicely…

“Unplug from your digital life and recall simpler times as you build a LEGO® Ideas model of an old-fashioned typewriter (21327).”

The product itself is inspired by the classic typewriter used by the LEGO Group’s founder Ole Kirk Kristiansen. Moving and sounding just like the real thing. On every tap of a letter, initiates a swing of the letter arm, lightly tapping the ink ribbon. In combination, the platen roller moves and carriage moves from right to left. This thing is freaking awsome!

Also included, is a letter from Thomas Kirk Kristiansen, provide in 43 languages. Allowing builders to feed this real sheet of paper into the brick-built platen roller.

That’s all dandy, but I know what you’re all really thinking. How long did it take to build?

Well, on and off over three evenings, with the addition of dealing with kids, being bitten by mosquitos and being side tracked by Apple TV shows– I’d say it took better ~4 to 5.5 hours.

I’d highly recommended, encase anyone's curious 👊
